Worship
Worship is at the heart of all we are and all we do. Our regular Sunday service is at 10.30 am and we have special services, such an All Saints’ Evening Memorial Service, at specific times of the year.
Strathbogie Drumblade worship is for everyone, not only our regulars on a Sunday, but for anyone who might be visiting, looking for a new church family or seeking to find faith.
Our services are traditional in that they are prayerful and based on the exploration of Biblical passages to discover their meaning for our lives in the world of today. But we are fresh in our ideas and styles of worship so that we can learn and grow in faith together as a congregational family of all ages and needs. Members of the congregation participate in the leadership of services through readings, meditations, drama and music.
We have a Trailblazers’ group for Primary School aged children which meets on a Sunday at 10.30 am. The group and their leaders come into the sanctuary for the young church slot within the main service and then they go to the hall for their own learning and activities.
We have All Age Services when the children remain in the congregation at least three times a year.
Come and see for yourself! You can be sure of a warm welcome and we hope you will find God in our midst.
Baptisms
Baptism is an act of grace in which God’s love is offered to each of us. Baptism involves water and the Spirit of God. It signifies that we are loved, blessed, forgiven through Jesus and grafted on to His body the church.
The Church of Scotland offers adult and child baptism as well as infant baptism sometimes referred to as a Christening. When someone is old enough to understand what baptism means he or she will make promises of confirmation. But when, as is most common in the Church of Scotland, it is an infant being baptised then the parents or grandparents are invited to make promises on behalf of the infant. It is optional for Godparents also to make promises.
Baptism takes place during the 10.30 am Sunday worship service and the baptismal family are welcome to invite extended family and friends along. The service will be aimed at all age worship with interaction for the children.
If you would like to talk about arranging a Baptism, in the first instance, please phone our Locum Minister on 07818 204 333 and she will contact you to arrange a time to meet for a chat.
Weddings
The Strathbogie Building is a beautiful space for a wedding with all the warm, oak wood in the sanctuary and the light streaming through the large clear windows.
Strathbogie Drumblade will conduct marriage ceremonies for anyone who lives within our parish, regardless of church membership, and for any couple who has connections with the church even if they live outside the parish.
If you would like to get married in the Strathbogie sanctuary, in the first instance, please phone the Locum Minister on 07818 204 333 who will arrange a time to meet up with you. You will be invited to two informal workshops to talk about your hopes for the day and for the future, and also to plan your marriage ceremony. We provide a Wedding Pack with selections of vows, blessings, songs and readings. Couples can choose and combine from this as they wish or may create something original which they have written themselves. Every wedding in Strathbogie Drumblade is unique!
Funerals
Strathbogie Drumblade is a Parish Church and for no fee, the minister is privileged to conduct a funeral service for anyone or any family who live in the parish, regardless of church membership.
Using a minister does not mean you have to be ‘religious’.
IF YOU BELIEVE, OR EVEN HOPE, THAT THERE IS A HEAVEN
BECAUSE THERE IS A GOD WHO IS LOVE
AND THAT ONE DAY WE WILL ALL BE REUNITED
THEN YOU WANT A MINISTER.
The minister will meet with you to talk about the content of the service
which will be very personal:
• finding out what you want to be said about your loved one and by whom (people other than the minister can speak)
• using readings that either you have chosen or are happy with
• using music that is meaningful for you
• using short prayers in language that connects with those mourning.
Strathbogie Sanctuary is available for a service of celebration and thanksgiving for someone’s life either before or after an act of committal at a Crematorium or an act of internment at a Graveyard.
The fee for using the church building is £120.
Usually Funeral Directors will contact the minister for you. But you can also make direct contact by phoning 07818 204 333.
